Recently, the new Sustainable Innovation Competition hosted by Dubai Expo City in the United Arab Emirates has come to a successful conclusion, and the highly anticipated results of the "Global Innovators" selection have been officially announced. This competition has attracted global attention, with over 1200 startups from 123 countries and regions actively participating. After layers of screening and intense competition, 36 startups from 34 different countries and regions stood out and were successfully selected.
These selected excellent startups will not only receive generous support funds of $50000, but also comprehensive technical guidance services provided by professional teams to help them further develop and grow. More importantly, they will showcase their highly innovative solutions to address climate change to the world at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held at the end of this year.
The innovative achievements of the selected companies cover multiple key areas such as biodiversity conservation, food safety assurance, water resource optimization and utilization, financial technology innovation, and waste recycling and reuse. For example, a company in Rwanda integrated multiple advanced technologies and successfully solved the problem of clean drinking water for 3 million people; A company jointly founded by young people from China, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam uses biofilm and drip irrigation technology to grow rice, achieving stable rice yields while significantly reducing water consumption, providing new ideas for sustainable agricultural development; A start-up company in Tanzania focuses on recycling marine plastic waste and packaging materials, converting them into plastic fibers for use in the construction and furniture production industries, effectively reducing the harm of plastic waste to the environment and achieving resource recycling.
Since its launch, the Sustainable Innovation Competition has carried the important mission of promoting global sustainable development. The event was initially established to support the UAE's bid for the Dubai World Expo. The UAE government has committed to setting up a special fund of $100 million to strongly support sustainable innovation projects, cultivate young entrepreneurial spirit, and provide a high-quality platform for communication and cooperation among various forces in the global sustainable development field. Nowadays, this event has successfully transformed into a long-term project of Dubai Expo City, continuously contributing to the global sustainable development cause.
As of now, through the first five competitions, the competition has provided strong support to 140 startups worldwide. After receiving support, these enterprises actively put innovative solutions into practice and achieved remarkable results: they have restored 36 million hectares of arable land, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 190000 tons, saved 6.3 million liters of water, and made positive contributions to global sustainable development.
Emirati Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairman of Dubai Expo Bureau, Liam Hashemi, said about the competition that the sustainable future of the Earth is urgent and all parties must take immediate action. The continuous holding of the Sustainable Innovation Competition not only provides a stage for global startups to showcase their innovative achievements, but also gathers wisdom and strength to address global challenges such as climate change. I believe that with the promotion of the competition, more innovative solutions will be implemented to create a better tomorrow for the sustainable development of the earth.
