On March 22nd, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement stating that if the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) refuses to release detained Israeli personnel, Israel will "annex" parts of Gaza. Katz also ordered the Israeli army to "seize more land in Gaza", claiming that the more Hamas refused to release people, the more land it would lose, and that these lands would be annexed by Israel. In addition, the Israeli military is increasing its strike on the Gaza Strip from all directions, including sea, land, and air. If Hamas does not release hostages, Israel will expand the "buffer zone" in the Gaza Strip. Previously, on the 18th, the Israeli side resumed large-scale airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, citing Hamas' refusal to extend the ceasefire agreement and release detainees. On the 19th, they announced targeted ground operations in the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, with the intention of dividing the Gaza Strip into two and establishing a buffer zone.
In response to Israel's recent military actions, many countries have condemned Israel for provoking another war in Gaza and called for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. At the same time, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office announced on March 2 the suspension of all supplies entering the Gaza Strip. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East issued a warning on the 21st that the distribution of aid supplies in the Gaza Strip has significantly decreased, and the agency's reserve of flour is only enough to sustain distribution for 6 days. Sam Rosa, an official from the Near East Relief Agency, stated that no supplies have recently entered the Gaza Strip, marking the longest period of material restrictions since the outbreak of the new Israeli Palestinian conflict in October 2023. The progress made during the previous six week ceasefire is being reversed.
