Recently, the US Iran relationship has once again become tense due to the nuclear issue, with both sides issuing tough statements, making the regional situation even more tense. ​
According to a report by Political News Network and NBC on March 30th, US President Trump threatened in an interview that if Iran does not reach an agreement with the US on the Iranian nuclear issue, the US will bomb Iran and impose a "secondary tariff" on its related products. Trump sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei in early March, threatening military strikes and urging Iran to negotiate with the United States on its nuclear program. Iranian President Pezehezhian confirmed on March 30th that Iran refused to negotiate directly with the United States in its response, but indirect dialogue can still continue as long as the United States proves its credibility. ​
In response, according to reports from various media outlets such as Iran's Maiher News Agency on March 31, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei issued a warning that the United States and Israel have always harbored hostility. Although they believe that the possibility of them launching an attack is unlikely, if they commit evil acts against Iran, Iran will definitely retaliate strongly. ​
Previously, the Iranian nuclear issue had been full of twists and turns. In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, and Germany. Iran promised to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the international community lifting sanctions. However, in May 2018, the Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement and implemented a policy of "maximum pressure" on Iran, restarting and adding a series of sanctions against Iran, resulting in Iran gradually suspending the fulfillment of some provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement. ​
At the Beijing meeting between China, Russia, and Iran on March 14, 2025, the three parties exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue and other issues of common concern, and issued a joint statement. The statement emphasizes the necessity of terminating all illegal unilateral sanctions and calls on relevant parties to abandon the pressure of sanctions and the threat of force, and to resolve issues through political and diplomatic contacts and dialogue based on mutual respect. Iranian government spokesperson Mukherjee announced on the 30th that Iran has submitted a response to the letter sent by the United States, and indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States have been put on the agenda. The diplomatic process is still ongoing. ​
The aerial threat from the United States and Iran not only makes the prospects for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue more uncertain, but also adds new uncertainty to peace and stability in the Middle East region. The international community generally calls on both sides to exercise restraint, resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation, and avoid taking actions that further escalate the conflict.
