On March 29th, according to reports from Yicheng County, Gyeongsangbuk do, South Korea, after Andong City, some areas of Yicheng County experienced a resurgence of wildfires on the 29th. After the incident, the South Korean fire department responded quickly and immediately dispatched six helicopters to the scene to carry out firefighting operations. ​
The wildfire disaster this time is severe. It started on the 22nd in Yicheng County and was triggered by a man in his 50s during a ritual. Affected by unfavorable weather conditions such as strong winds and extreme dryness, the fire quickly spread to multiple surrounding cities and counties. Although the main fire was extinguished around 17:00 on the 28th, wildfires spread again in Yicheng County, Andong City and other areas on the night of the 28th. ​
According to the news released by the South Korean Central Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on the 29th, as of 6:00 am local time on the 29th, the wildfire has caused 29 deaths and 41 injuries, and nearly 3000 houses and residences have been damaged. The affected area by the wildfire covers 48000 hectares, and more than 6800 people are still displaced due to the wildfire. ​
In response to the resurgence of the fire, in addition to dispatching 6 helicopters, Yicheng County has also deployed 230 new staff members to participate in the firefighting efforts. Andong City has also taken active action, deploying 11 helicopters to extinguish the remaining fires. As of the morning of the 29th, the wildfire in Andong City has been brought under control. In addition, the South Korean Forest Service has deployed 55 helicopters, nearly 1600 personnel, and 224 firefighting equipment to carry out firefighting work in multiple locations. ​
At present, the South Korean police have launched an investigation into the cause of the wildfire and plan to summon the suspects involved on the 31st. The South Korean Ministry of Administrative Security has also prepared blankets, cold pads and other supplies in advance for the disaster victims to cope with the weekend temperature drop. ​
