Recently, Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, revealed that he had been added to a chat group of senior US government officials discussing the attack on Houthi militants in Yemen, which has attracted high attention from all walks of life. On March 25th local time, Waltz, the National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, and President Trump both spoke out on this matter. ​
Waltz took the initiative to take responsibility in an interview with Fox News, saying, 'I take full responsibility, the group was created by me, and my job is to ensure everything is coordinated and consistent. This is too embarrassing, we will find out the truth.'. In addition, Waltz hinted that Goldberg may have "intentionally" appeared in the group chat, and is currently investigating his way of joining the group. He spoke with Elon Musk on the 25th and will conduct an investigation with the assistance of technical experts. ​
During an interview with NBC, Trump strongly supported Waltz, stating that he had "learned his lesson" and was a good person. He also emphasized that Waltz did not need to apologize. Trump stated that there is no confidential information in the group chat on the communication platform Signal regarding the US military's combat plan in Yemen. He will investigate the use of Signal and request Waltz to study Signal security issues, which will not be conducted by the FBI. ​
Previously, Goldberg stated on the 24th that he received a group invitation from a user with the same name as Waltz on the communication application Signal on the 11th, and was subsequently pulled into an 18 person chat called the "Houthi PC Group". The group chat content involves details such as attack targets, attack sequence, and the weapons that the US will deploy. White House National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes responded that the group chat "appears to be genuine" and that the White House is reviewing the incident, but emphasized that "there is no threat to military or national security. White House Press Secretary Levitt also issued a statement, stating that President Trump continues to have "great trust in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. ​
