According to France's 24-hour news channel on March 12th, on Wednesday of this week, the scientific community received a stunning news: dinosaur footprints fossils that had been hidden for many years were rediscovered at a school in Queensland, Australia.
Going back in time to 2002, a miner excavated a peculiar stone slab while working. The slate was covered with mysterious three toed footprints, and the miners were curious and gave them to a nearby school. However, the school misjudged and believed that this stone slab may just be a worthless replica, so they casually placed it in a corner of the campus, letting the dust of time cover it layer by layer.
Until recently, researchers have been actively searching for traces of dinosaur fossils in the area, and the school only then remembered the long neglected slate and quickly invited paleontologist Romirio to come and investigate. After careful examination, Romirio excitedly confirmed that the footprints on the slate originated from a small herbivorous dinosaur that walked on two legs.
Surprisingly, on this stone slab with a surface area of less than 1 square meter, there are as many as 66 footprints densely distributed. Further research by Romirio found that these dinosaur footprints can be traced back to the early Jurassic period, about 200 million years ago. He couldn't help but sigh: 'This place can be considered one of the most concentrated areas of dinosaur footprints in Australia's recorded history. It is truly regrettable that such a precious and important fossil has been mercilessly overlooked for 23 years.' Now, this fossil has finally escaped the dust years and is expected to provide key clues for scientists to study dinosaur ecology and evolution.
