In a small village in Qingcheng District, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province, hidden deep in the bamboo forest is a unique exotic restaurant - "Canadian Mom Cuisine". In this restaurant full of stories, David from Quebec, Canada and his 78 year old mother Louise warmly welcomed guests from all over the world, skillfully incorporating the flavors of their hometown thousands of miles away into the dining tables of Lingnan countryside. My father is passionate about collecting antique furniture, and with his full support, I carefully selected many high-quality items and brought them across the ocean from Canada to China. The fate between Dai Wei and China has quietly passed for nearly twenty years. He has worked and lived in many bustling cities such as Beijing and Guangzhou, and every experience has added a brilliant touch to his life. In 2023, Dai Wei embarked on a self driving trip with Chinese friends. As they passed through Qingyuan, the picturesque green mountains and rivers, as well as the peaceful and simple rural scenery, instantly deeply attracted him. At that moment, a dream that had been planned for many years took root and sprouted in his heart - to establish a Canadian restaurant on this beautiful land.
Our signature dish 'King Chicken' uses high-quality Qingyuan chicken from the local area, paired with unique seasonings from Canada. Once launched, it has been deeply loved by diners, "said Dai Wei proudly when talking about his own dishes. He always adheres to the concept of attentive management and is committed to making authentic Canadian cuisine. In order to ensure the original flavor of the dishes, some ingredients are specially imported from Canada, and various high-quality ingredients are carefully selected locally, striving to perfectly present the taste of hometown in every dish.
The restaurant is named 'Canadian Mom Cuisine', which carries deep emotions behind it. This is not only a beautiful memory of the family flavor, but also Dai Wei's wish to share with more people the home cooked dishes carefully prepared by his mother for him and his family when he was a child. In 2024, Louis joined the restaurant's chef team with her handwritten recipe bearing the traces of time. From that moment on, the restaurant seemed to be infused with a warm and powerful force.
My mother and I communicate in French on a daily basis, my mother communicates with the chefs in English, the chefs communicate with each other in Cantonese, and I communicate with the chefs in Mandarin, "Dai Wei recalled with a smile. During my mother's more than three months working in the restaurant, the kitchen seemed to have become a wonderful world of multiple languages, with four languages intertwined and echoing, and laughter and joy never stopping.
Louise unreservedly imparts the traditional Canadian cuisine to her Chinese employees, and she personally controls the preparation of ingredients and cooking heat, strictly ensuring quality control. Nowadays, the business of restaurants is extremely hot, and they are basically fully booked every day. Most diners come to dine in advance. This place not only attracts many local food enthusiasts from Guangdong, but also customers who came by plane from Xi'an, and even Taiwanese customers living in Vietnam came to "explore the store".
Every year during the Canadian Maple Sugar Festival and some major festivals, I hold a variety of special events in the restaurant. In Dai Wei's mind, the significance of opening this restaurant is far more than just allowing customers to taste authentic "Canadian mom dishes". More importantly, he hopes to use it as a bridge to promote cultural exchange between Canada and China. Through delicious food, the two peoples can have a deeper understanding of each other's culture and life.
Dai Wei has established deep friendships with many local villagers. In his spare time, everyone often sits together and talks about the customs and interesting stories of their respective hometowns. When in high spirits, they will also visit various scenic spots in Qingyuan together and share beautiful moments.
On the day before Louise returned to Canada, she went to visit those familiar children, whose innocent smiles filled her with joy. At the same time, she also received a sweater hand woven by the restaurant staff, a gift full of love that moved Louise deeply. I really enjoy living in Qingyuan, where the environment is beautiful and life is convenient.
