According to the Brussels Times on the 16th, a survey conducted by Deloitte revealed that young people in Belgium show a clear tendency to focus more on their salary and career development opportunities compared to climate change issues.
This survey selected 300 Gen Z individuals aged 20 to 29 and 200 millennial individuals aged 30 to 41, using a weighted sample survey method. The results indicate that personal financial stability has become the most concerning issue for all respondents, far surpassing their concern for climate change. Moreover, the respondents' level of concern about issues such as terrorism, war, or sexual harassment is also higher than their concern about climate change.
In terms of career, 73% of respondents feel that their current job gives them a sense of purpose, and 60% are satisfied with career development opportunities. It is worth noting that over half of the millennial and Gen Z generations are using artificial intelligence technology, however, only 27% of Gen Z and 18% of millennials consider themselves proficient in this technology. Meanwhile, half of the millennials and 65% of Generation Z indicate that they have not received artificial intelligence training provided by their employers.
This survey result reflects the importance that Belgian youth attach to personal economic security and career development in the current social environment, and provides important reference for relevant policy makers, employers, and all sectors of society to understand the needs of the youth group.
